Every year IBSA FOUNDATION for scientific research funds talented researchers in order to promote and to allow them to do great science, with 4 fellowships of € 30,000 in the following four research fields:
- 1 fellowship in dermatology;
- 1 fellowship in endocrinology;
- 1 fellowship in fertility – urology;
- 1 fellowship in pain medicine/rheumatology/orthopedics.
Applicants must be under 40 years old on the deadline for the submission of proposals, can be of any nationality and must have a degree in medicine, biology, pharmacy, biotechnology or bioengineering. Open to PhDs, post docs, and residents.
For the entire duration of the grant, applicants must be active in the Host Institution, i.e. a research organization (such as universities, hospitals or other research centers), irrespective of its legal status (organized under public or private law), whose primary goal is to independently conduct non-economic biomedical research and to disseminate its results.

- List of PubMed publications (max. 10) of the past five years
The proposals are evaluated by the international scientific board of the Foundation through impartial evaluation processes. The IBSA Foundation management will make its final decision after having considered the recommendations of the international scientific board. Award decisions are final.
Applications are judged on the following criteria:
Mobility is key to the IBSA Foundation fellowships: 10%
Quality of the project to be developed in the host laboratory (Feasibility – Originality – Scientific value): 60%
CV of the candidate, and, in particular, research experience: 15 %
The suitability of the host laboratory for the proposed work: 15%
Applicants are promptly informed as soon as a decision is reached, normally within two months from the deadline. Award winners are invited to attend a private ceremony that will take place in the first quarter of 2019 at the Headquarters of the IBSA Foundation in Lugano (Switzerland). Travel costs and one-night accommodation for the winner, will be covered by the IBSA Foundation.
The budget (before taxes and duties) includes funding for salary and mobility costs, and is intended to cover the cost of living for 12 months. The salary rate depends on the country being visited and may be subject to taxation. We cannot advise on respective national tax regulations and we recommend fellowship winners to contact the relevant authorities in the host country.
Fellowships must be started within the 2019 year.
Reports & Acknowledgements
In the year following the granting of the fellowship,the winners are required to reply to the questionnaire mailed by IBSA Foundation once a year. The reply is mandatory, as well as the prompt notification of any changes of email and phone numbers. Publications related to the research awarded should acknowledge the support of IBSA Foundation in the acknowledgement section of the manuscript.
The grant will be paid in two instalments. Written confirmation of the start date by the host supervisor is mandatory. A first instalment of 50% will be paid before the start of the project and the second instalment of 50% by the end of the year 2019.
