IBSA FOUNDATION FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
IBSA Foundation was founded in 2012 by IBSA Institut Biochimique SA – a Swiss pharmaceutical company present today in more than eighty countries around the world – with the goal of becoming a reference point for the advancement and promotion of science through collaborations and constant relationships with the academic world, institutions, hospitals and ordinary citizens. Its birth is a concrete proof of IBSA’s dedication to social responsibility and its commitment to being a good citizen of the countries where it is present. The driving values of IBSA Foundation have always been innovation, education and research in the scientific fields.
To achieve its aims, IBSA Foundation focuses on multiple activities with the purpose of training and informing the scientific community and raising the awareness of the population on issues and illnesses with a strong health and socio-economic impact, that can noticeably affect people’s quality of life.
The proper coordination of the Foundation’s activities to achieve the goals set is governed by an internal body, made up of Arturo Licenziati and Silvia Misiti, President and Director of the Foundation respectively.
IBSA Foundation takes advantage of a Scientific Committee and an Advisory Board, advisory bodies made up of international level members who are not part of the company, but contribute to the development of the Foundation’s activities by providing their solid scientific and professional background. The Scientific Committee is made up of Andrea Alimonti, Professor at the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, USI Università della Svizzera italiana and Medical Director of the Molecular Oncology Laboratory of the IOR – Institute of Oncology Research – of the Italian Switzerland; Bruno Imthurn, Full Professor and Chairman, Department of Reproductive Endocrinology, University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland; Antonio Musarò, Associate Professor in Histology, Embryology and Biotechnology, Neuromuscular Research Group and Tissue Engineering – Sapienza University of Rome and Domenico Salvatore, Associate Professor in Endocrinology, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery – University of Naples “Federico II”.

THE FOUNDATION’S ACTIVITIES
IBSA Foundation acts synergistically with the world of universities, schools, with both public and private entities in the medical and research fields and with the world of information, in order to transfer a system of excellence to the benefit of the community.
Among the main activities promoted by the Foundation, there are:
IBSA Foundation Forum: an important appointment of scientific promotion, organised with the most qualified international experts on innovative medical and biological issues, as well as on subjects of particular interest for the medical world for their broad scientific implications and social impacts. The Forum is a chance to compare and contrast ideas, exchange information and share valuable input on research and knowledge in specific fields. The Foundation organises two forums per year.
IBSA Foundation Fellowships: Today’s researchers are tomorrow’s scientists.
Starting from this awareness and the belief of the extraordinary role that research covers to improve everybody’s quality of life, the Foundation is constantly committed in scientific promotion and dissemination activities. The fellowships are issued to support the work of young researchers under 35 years old, coming from all over the world, with the aim to develop projects in the following therapeutic areas: Dermatology, Endocrinology, Fertility, Orthopedics, Rheumatology, Pain Medicine.
Scientific dissemination projects: designed to promote the scientific culture through activities and debates on themes that combine science, culture and society.
Publishing activities: are aimed at the advancement and promotion of scientific culture. At the end of the forums and workshops, a collection of papers on the contents of the encounters is published, enabling scientists to keep up to date and attendees to access the desired information directly from professionals and experts.
IBSA Foundation’s website: plays an important role in showcasing projects taking place on a variety of subjects. It also periodically distributes a newsletter describing its manifold activities.
“I Ragazzi di Pasteur” is a collection of books, an unpublished project to put young people in contact with science in an active and original way. Dedicated to secondary and tertiary education, it proposes a book series together with the national contest: “Le bufale in rete: come riconoscerle!” (“Fake news: how to recognize them!”). Additionally, on January 2017, the Foundation presented the first Decalogue to help citizens defending themselves from the fake news: “E-Health: tra bufale e verità –Le due facce della salute in rete”.
“Science and art in conversation” is a series of conversations among representatives of the artistic and scientific world, entitled: “La Scienza a regola d’Arte”. It is realised with the Museo d’arte della Svizzera italiana (MASI Lugano).
