Full biography

  • Professor of Exhibition Design and Art Publishing at the IED Accademia di Belle Arti Galli in Como. Former professor of 3 lecturesat the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan - Editorial Systems for Art and Theory, History of Representation Methods and History of Contemporary Art. In 2003, he was one of the founders of Associazione Musei d’Arte Contemporanea Italiani (AMACI - Association of Italia Contemporary Art Museums) and is currently a member of the Board of Directors and Director of ‘I love Museums’, the Association’s press service. He was Curator of the Residenze BoCS Art di Cosenza from April 2018 to December 2019 and Director of the Autostrada Biennale Prizren Kosovo in 2018.
  • Giacinto was Director of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo (Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery of Bergamo) from 2000 to 2017. He was also firstly editor in chief and then vice-director of ‘Flash Art Italia e International, a magazine he continues to work with, from 1986 to 1992. He wrote the column ‘Per diritto di cronaca’ (lit. ‘For the right to information’) in the periodical ‘Artribune’ from 2011 to 2014, and the on-line column ‘Oltre il giardino’ (Beyond the garden) with Luca Rossi on the website Whitehouse.
  • The many exhibitions that he has curated include the one on Russian artists within the review ‘Passaggi ad Oriente’ (Walks to the East) at the Venice Biennial in 1993, the editions of ‘Fuori Uso’ (Out of Order) of 1995, 1997, 1998 and 1999, and ‘Over the Edges’ with Jan Hoet in Ghent (Belgium) in 2000 and commissioner of the Quadriennale di Roma (Rome Quadriennial) 2005.
  • He was curator of the Higher Visual Arts Course at the Fondazione Antonio Ratti in Como from 1995 to 2004 and consultant for the Furla-Querini Stampalia Art Prize from 2000 to 2015.
  • Giacinto’s monograph books include ones on Enzo Cucchi, Jan Fabre and Ettore Spalletti and, with Stefan Casciani, Design in Italia 1950-1990, with Laura Cherubini and Cloe Piccoli Paesaggio Italiano Vols. I, II, III and IV. He was a member of the scientific committee of the Museion of Bolzano, the Luigi Pecci Museim of Contemporary Art in Prato, Palazzo Asperia in Alessandria, the Spazio Oberdan of the Province of Milan and the Kogart Foundation in Budapest.
  • From 2008 to 2010, he was a consultant for MiArt Fiera Internazionale d'Arte in Milan.
  • In 2008, he received recognition for his career, promoted by the Associazione Almae Matris Alumni of Bologna University, from Pier Ugo Calzolari, the Rector of the University of Bologna. In 2016, he received the Premio Capitani della Cultura della Lombardia.
  • In 2020, he started working intensely on-line, inventing programmes like Miti e Mitologie dell’Arte (Myths and Mythologies of Art), visible on YouTube. In 2021, he has inaugurated the programme ‘Il marciapiede dell’arte’ (The pavement of art), a weekly of Studio Visit at the studios of artists that can be seen on Facebook and YouTube.
  • He takes care of the on-line exhibition Dritto e Rovescio for the Order of Psychologists of Lombardy (OPL) within the week of La Psicologia per i Diritti Umani (Psychology for Human Rights) promoted by the OPL and a series of conferences for the Associazione Internazionale ReDiPsi (International Association ReDiPsi (network of psychologists for Human Rights)).
  • He is currently a Member of the Advisory Board of IBSA Foundation, and the Centro Italiano Arte Contemporanea (Italian Centre for Contemporary Art) of Foligno.
