Casa Carlo Cattaneo
The historic and symbolic building in Castagnola, where Carlo Cattaneo lived in the twenty years following 1849, is now our headquarters and laboratory for research and thought.
From historical dwelling to laboratory of thought
Historical background
Carlo Cattaneo lived in the House in the twenty years after 1849, and from his study overlooking the lake, in what was then a residence surrounded by vineyards and fruit trees, he was the protagonist of an intense cultural and political activity that had an enormous impact on the growth of his territory, Canton Ticino, and on the social and cultural development of the community.
Renovation and opening
On 20 September 2023, the inauguration of the renovated house and new headquarters of the IBSA Foundation took place, in the presence of Mayor Michele Foletti, Roberto Badaracco of the Culture, Sport and Events Department, and other political and institutional representatives of the Canton of Ticino and the City of Lugano.
Proposed activities
The Casa Carlo Cattaneo has become the main venue for events open to the public, schools, and spaces for the activities of researchers and students.
There are also temporary and permanent exhibitions: among these is an in-depth study dedicated to Carlo Cattaneo, the great philosopher-politician-theorist of federalism and proponent of the synthesis between technical and humanistic thought.
